Marianas Outrigger Canoe hosts emotional tribute for our CAPT Jack

Marianas Outrigger Club (MOC) and Saipan Paddling Club (SPC) organized a paddle-out ceremony for Kabiriel, a well-known athlete in the Northern Mariana Islands who died of cancer on March 25 at the age of 47. The ceremony was attended by Kabiriel’s family, friends, and teammates. Several heartfelt speeches were made, including by MOC President Tim Asaivao, SPC President Justin Andrew, founding member Dino Manning, and teammate Jose Quan —with the ceremony emceed by fellow paddler Dr. Bobby Cruz. Kabiriel’s widow, Patty, expressed her gratitude for the ceremony and thanked everyone for their support. Manning, who flew in from San Diego, said he felt he had to be there to pay his last respects to Kabiriel, whom he considered a brother. The turnout showed how much Kabiriel was loved, but it will take time for everyone to process his loss. The ceremony was successful despite unexpected weather and water conditions.
