Marianas Outrigger Club (MOC) and Saipan Paddling Club (SPC) organized a paddle-out ceremony for Kabiriel, a well-known athlete in the Northern Mariana Islands who died of cancer on March 25 at the age of 47. The ceremony was attended by Kabiriel’s family, friends, and teammates. As members of the Marianas Outrigger Club, we are deeply saddened by the loss of our fellow paddler Jack Kabiriel. Jack was an exceptional member of our team who accomplished so much during his time with us. We will always remember Jack as a fierce competitor on the water, with an unwavering determination to succeed. He was a true leader who inspired us to push ourselves to our limits and to never give up, even in the face of adversity.

The Marianas Outrigger Club (MOC) recently participated in the 22nd Micronesia Cup Canoe Race in Koror, Palau, and won one gold, four silver, and one bronze medal. The MOC women’s team won gold in the 1,500m sprint, silver in the 500m sprint, and bronze in the eight-mile distance race. The Marianas Outrigger Club Saipan won the 10-mile endurance race at the 19th annual Micronesia Cup, which saw paddlers representing 17 clubs and over 40 teams. The competition began with the 1,000-meter sprints on Friday, followed by the 500-meter sprints and “Neni” race exhibition on Saturday.
